The color hook on the underside of the lure functions as a strike point, which means that the jig requires no bait. The aluminum spoon is an excellent vertical jig for zander. Kuusamo Pilkkilätkä is a version of the classic lure designed particularly for winter use. One of the advantages of lightweight aluminum as material, is the light and floaty swimming action it provides. Small tugs of 5–7 cm repeated every few seconds are often enough when ice fishing for zander. Most heavy lures will not react to such small movements, but an aluminum spool will respond producing an attractive swimming action.
